Workshop participants will be introduced to the Viewpoints as they relate to ensemble composition and performance. Together we will establish a common vocabulary that will allow us to implement rigorous physical improvisation. Through the exercises we will focus on creating greater connection with our bodies, therefore establishing and enhancing the ensemble dynamic. This will result in stage compositions devised by, and performed for participants.
Ryan Marchand graduated from San Francisco State with a degree in French and a minor in Theatre Arts. At State Ryan studied the Suzuki Actor's training method with Dr. Yukihiro Goto, as well as The Viewpoints, in conjunction with Meisner technique with Barbara Damashek. Additional training includes Noh and Kyogen theatre with Jubilith Moore of Theatre of Yugen, where he most recently appeared in the world premiere play This Lingering Life, and 10 years training in Hawaiian Kenpo Karate, having studied with Grand Master Bill Ryusaki. Ryan is CA$H Grant recipient, and a founding member of 11th Hour Ensemble, a physical theatre troupe, as well as Artistic Director for Handful Players, a non-profit musical theatre program based in the Western Addition.
